Right now I am sitting in the middle of the Brecon Beacons.? It?s 27 degrees, I can see green fields for miles.? Above my head two red kites circle taking in the warm air stream gliding gracefully.? In the fields sheep bleet what sounds like a comedy symphony of ?baa? and there is just loads and loads of open space.
It?s absolute bliss.? When the weather is like this there really is no better place to holiday than right here in the British Isles.? Nipping over the border to Wales last week and hitting our destination in the Brecon Beacons with the roof down on the Mini Cabriolet the sun shone and the whole country was bathed in sunshine and looked like something out of a Jane Austen novel.
We were about to spend one of the best weeks away in an old farmhouse with all mod cons in the Welsh countryside in the farming town of Builth Wells.
This has been our third or fourth holiday in the UK since having Miss Roo and we?ve found some little gems since doing so.? I always scare Daddy E by putting terms such as ?boutique, luxury, holiday hideaway? into Google when finding our holidays ? as most people well know these phrases mean ???.
However, our 350 year old Welsh holiday cottage which sleeps six of us has cost us (as we?ve holidayed with the grandparents this time) just a smidgen over ?300 for a week and to be fair we?ve had a pretty great time.? The cottage, nestled deep in the hills has been spacious with loads of open space to run around in, a trampoline, a treehouse and a giant rope swing ? pretty much every kids dream.? Pet friendly too for all you dog lovers.
We?ve eaten out every night cooking on the BBQ, the weather has been divine and we?ve seen wildlife a plenty, eaten fish and chips on the sea front, rooted in rock pools, delved in the caves, eaten ice cream and run around blowing bubbles, playing cricket and behaving like big kids.? Roo has ridden her balance bike most days in the park and come on leaps and bounds ? putting fear into elderly cyclists lol!
There?s been no kids clubs, no organised activities, no swimming pools.? Did it matter?? Absolutely not, Roo?s loved every minute of it and doesn?t want to go home ? testament of a good family holiday?? I think so.
