PLASTIC SURGERY PAYOUT??

A New Jersey casino owned by Donald Trump has come up?with a prize that could?literally raise eyebrows: The winner gets?$25,000 toward a variety of plastic surgery.

The recipient at?the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City will be able to?choose from a menu of procedures, including breast enlargement, a facelift, tummy tuck and?liposuction.

Kathleen McSweeney, senior vice president of marketing for Trump Entertainment Resorts, says in an AP story, ?People often want this surgery but they?re reluctant to spend their own money to do it. Whether it?s kids? tuition, or the mortgage or they just don?t have that kind of money, this is their opportunity to get it done.?

The casino cites?infoplasticsurgery.com, which lists these prices:

  • Facelift:?$7,000 to $9,000
  • Nose job: $5,000 to $6,000
  • Eyelid tucks?(upper?and lower included): $4,000 to $5,500
  • Arm lift: $5,000 to $6,500
  • Botox:?$200 to $400 per area
  • Breast augmentation surgery: $5,000 to $8,000
  • Chin or cheek implants:?$3,000 to $4,500
  • Liposuction: $2,500 to $10,000.

Players can earn credits through Oct. 29, the day the prize will be awarded. The winner has to be there, with?his or her player?s card inserted into a machine.

The winner can also choose to take the $25,000 in cash instead of getting plastic surgery.?

If some are lured by the?come-on, it?s a turn-off to others.

Editorial writers for NorthJersey.com, the website for the newspaper, The Record,?called the promotion ?a new low?, writing,??it makes sense in a sick and twisted way that anyone with a buck can win plastic surgery.?

?They?wrote:

?We understand that Atlantic City casinos face stiff competition from their peers in Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut. The recession hasn?t been kind, either ? second-quarter profits for 2011 were down more than 8 percent from the same period last year. Convincing gamblers to part with their dwindling dollars has likely become a monumental task where once it was easy as pie. But the sobering economic situation in no way softens the awful reality that the Trump Taj Mahal is willing to appeal to customers? most personal insecurities to boost revenue. That?s a new low.?

And an assistant professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine said in?the?AP?report that?she?s seen cases of people struggling with excessive plastic surgery and excessive gambling, and is troubled?by the connections.

?Definitely one thing reinforces the other one,? Dr. Eda Gorbis?said. ?Both are addictions, and they?re bad addictions.?

You have to wonder if the gimmick will?catch on closer to home ? ?in Las Vegas, Palm Springs and especially?the plastic surgery capital, Los Angeles.

What do you think?
