NEW YORK (AP) ? The weather is still playing havoc with Long Island commuters.
The Long Island Rail Road temporarily suspended service for more than an hour on the entire system Wednesday evening due to downed wires, gate crossings not working and signal problems.
At Penn Station, the railroad's ticket area was briefly shut down due to overcrowding.
Limited service resumed Wednesday night, but the railroad warned that passengers should expect residual delays of about an hour.
A nor'easter blustered into New York and New Jersey on Wednesday with rain and wet snow, plunging homes right back into darkness, and complicating an already messy commuter situation.
At Penn Station, where crowds milled about waiting for the next available train, J.D. Risotto, a 31-year-old accountant from Garden City, was not amused.
"They couldn't deal with the hurricane and now you have a storm that in comparison to that is very small and they can't deal with that either," Risotto complained. "It's frustrating as a commuter."
Joe Franco, a Consolidated Edison worker from Wading River, was also unforgiving.
"I think the Long Island Rail Road spent a lot of money on a new signal system that doesn't work at all," Franco said. "It's gone out every time there's a small rain, or small snow."
But Jim Whelan, a 49-year-old real estate executive who was trying to get home to Huntington, took it in stride.
"If you take a look at the whole year, I think they do a pretty good job," Whelan said. "If the train doesn't go to Huntington, I'm going to go back to my office and sleep," said Whelan.
"You just got to go with the flow," he added.
